Susana González, RN MSN MHA CNML

Susana González is a leader who fully commits to everything she embraces. Her purpose in life is to leave this world a little better than she found it. She is a phenomenal nurse educator and enjoys mentoring and developing the next generation of healthcare providers and promoting all levels of education in changing their lives.

Susana is currently a nurse educator for ASI Home Care agency. In addition, she is adjunct faculty for two schools of nursing. Throughout her career Susana, has role modeled true servant leadership and served on numerous committees and board of directors of key organizations on a local, state, and national levels. She continues to be at the forefront on health care issues for diversity and inclusion of ethnic and underserved communities. She is active on advisory committees for elected officials in the State of Illinois and she is an exemplar advocate for public policy change specifically in the nurse profession and diversity and inclusion in higher education.

She is an exemplar role model and mentor to aspiring minority individuals who seek a career in healthcare. She is also an amazing resource person when it comes to coordinating and offering volunteer services for outreach and educational services.

Susana has an unwavering commitment to service for others through her volunteer efforts with various non-profit organizations and boards of directors, such as the March of Dimes-Chicago, Mujeres Latinas en Accion, the Chicago Bilingual Nurse Consortium. She currently serves as a board member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses-Illinois where she served as President. She also serves on the American Nurses Association-Illinois board of directors and recently she was appointed to the Illinois Nurses Foundation board.

Susana has received numerous nominations, recognitions, and awards for her compassionate servant leadership and expertise to address health disparities. To highlight a few more recent awards She was named Nurse of the Year for the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and Ambassador of the year for 2018. She received the Nurse Leadership award for the Illinois chapter of NAHN in 2019. In 2020 recognitions come via ANA-Illinois where Susana has been selected as the NURSE Influencer awardee for the year and DePaul University Woman of Spirit and Action! In 2021 she was awarded the Latino Expo Community Champion award.

Susana is well prepared educationally with dual master’s degrees MSN and MHA. She is a life role model for nursing education and community servant leadership. On a personal note: She lives by the philosophy that if there is something, she can do for you now, then let it be so. For, we may not walk this path again.
