State Senator Pacione-Zayas (D-Chicago) has been hard at work the last few weeks getting into the community to learn more about how she can help local organizations continue to provide services to residents of the 20th District. See more below!
At the HANA Center, Pacione-Zayas learned about the center’s Headstart programs, youth services, and community organizing in the Korean community.
Pacione-Zayas recently had the valuable opportunity to stop by the offices of the Polish American Chamber of Commerce to discuss future opportunities for collaboration and is excited to see what lies ahead.
She also visited Schurz High School, where she saw the future site of the school’s Aquaponics Lab. The school’s STEM Grow Lab and Learning Garden provides a space for students to learn about the importance of different food systems while giving them hands-on experience in growing food.
At Northeastern Illinois University’s El Centro, Pacione-Zayas met with President Gloria Gibson, El Centro Director Maria Luna Duarte and Dr. Suleyma Perez to learn more about the important work they do providing access to equitable education opportunities to the Latinx community.
The Advocate Health Care Masonic Medical Center welcomed Pacione-Zayas and other state leaders to their Pediatric Development Center to see firsthand all the important work they do to help patients and their families. They also discussed ways policymakers can improve support access for young patients with developmental diagnoses.
During a trip to central Illinois, Pacione-Zayas learned more about carbon capture and storage. Decatur’s first-of-its-kind project works to reduce the carbon footprint of energy generation facilities and protect Illinoisans from pollution.
