The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) is seeking to hire a high energy individual who will serve as our Special Assistant to the Director, on Child Support Services program issues. 

The desired candidate will have a relatable degree or experience equivalent to four years of college, with knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience around the complexity and application of Illinois Child Support laws and policies  
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Bi-lingual / Demonstrate strong human relations and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrate successful experience working individually and as a team member
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Excel, Outlook with ability to learn other database software  
  • Experience managing and monitoring large projects with reporting requirements
  • Experience completing confidential reports and research assignments under strict deadlines
  • Experience developing and implementing policy recommendations  
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to pass a back ground check

CLASS TITLE:  Education Project Manager, Education and Human Services, Office of the Mayor




Provides support to the Education and Human Services Team in the Mayor’s Office on early childhood development (prenatal to five) and Kindergarten through post-secondary strategies. Promotes vision that all young children, school age students and their families are provided high-quality supports and learning experiences needed to enter kindergarten ready to learn and thrive throughout their educational lives. Manages special projects and events for the Mayor’s Office Education and Human Services team. Performs related duties as required.



  • Prepare written policy briefs for Senior Director of Education Policy, Director of Early Learning, and Education and Human Services team
  • Conduct research and analysis on policy and operational items related to education
  • Provide operational assistance to Education and Human Services team
  • Manage special projects as assigned for the Education and Human Services team

Education, Training, and Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in government, education, public affairs, or other social policy field
  • Excellent project management and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management

  • Effective, versatile, and action-oriented
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Knowledge of legislative process and government functions helpful
